In an important step towards helping women to reclaim their strength, resilience and empowerment, a pioneering support programme has been developed and will be piloted in our Cambridge community. This programme was launched on 29 November, with great support from the local community. The launch event, held in Cambridge, saw an impressive turnout of dignitaries including the Hon. Karen Chhour, Minister for Children, Hon Louise Upston, our local MP, and the Deputy Mayor, underscoring the importance of this initiative.
The programme, developed by the Community House’s Violence Free Waipa Coordinator, Anne Morrison aims to provide essential skills and support to help women rebuild their lives and to flourish. By focusing on personal development and empowerment, the programme offers a path for women to move forward positively in life.
One of the unique aspects of this initiative is the involvement of women who have firsthand experience with violence. Their insights and contributions have shaped the programme to be more effective and empathetic, ensuring that it addresses the real needs and challenges faced by those it aims to help.
The launch marks a hopeful beginning for many women in the community, offering them the tools and support needed to break free from the cycle of violence and build a brighter future. With such a robust framework and collaboration with affected women, this programme is set to make a meaningful impact on the lives of many.
If you feel you have knowledge or skills that might be valuable to share in the programme, or perhaps you have goods or services that could be gifted or discounted, or maybe you are able to financially support the programme, please make contact initially with Anne Morrison at coordinator@violencefreewaipa.org.nz. We would welcome all offers of help.
